A Visit to the Tate Modern

Year 11 Art students visited the Tate Modern on Monday 12th October. They had the opportunity to visit the Frida Kahlo exhibition and the permanent collection to draw and research the artist firsthand as part of their Personal Portfolio.

Students explored Kahlo’s powerful self-portraits and the personal, cultural and political themes that run through her work. They considered how she used symbolism and imagery to express identity, resilience and heritage, and many pupils made sketches and notes to inform their own creative projects back in the studio.

Experiences like this encourage students to look closely, think critically and develop their own artistic voice. We hope the exhibition will inspire fresh ideas in their sketchbooks and final pieces in the weeks ahead.
