Dear Parent or Carer,
Buxton School has three vacancies for elected parent governors. All parents with children at Buxton School are eligible to stand for election.
We would particularly welcome applications from parents with experience and expertise in education, human resources or marketing to help develop the breadth of skills on the governing body. However, the most important attribute any prospective governor can have is commitment and determination to improve the school and the education it offers.
Parent governors play an important role as members of the governing body, which is responsible for supporting the school, ensuring that pupils receive high quality education and planning for future development and improvement. The term of office is four years and governors are expected to attend six full governing body meetings a year, plus at least six committee meetings, one strategy morning and two governor training sessions to help develop their relevant skills and knowledge. New governors are expected to attend induction training.
If you would like to stand as a candidate please complete the enclosed nomination form and return it to the school as soon as possible and not later than 12.00 noon on Wednesday 7th June 2017. Nominations must be from parents or carers with children at the school on the day that nominations close. Parents or carers who have paid employment in the school for 500 hours per academic year or more or who are elected members of the Local Authority are not eligible to stand in these elections. Our website summarises the qualifications to serve as a governor. Anyone standing for election must certify that he/she is not disqualified for any reason.
If there are more nominations than vacancies the election will be held by secret ballot. If that is necessary, voting papers will be sent to all parents together with details of the ballot procedure. Governors will also be subject to a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check under the Police Act 1997, Part V and will be checked against the DfE list 99 of people who are not permitted to work with children.
