Curriculum

Over the next half term we will be covering the following:

Literacy – Story writing and retelling through spoken and written methods. Descriptive writing, poetry, fiction and non-fiction.

Numeracy – Measuring length, weight and capacity; numbers to 100.

Science – ‘The Five Senses’, ‘Ourselves’, ‘Light and Dark’, ‘Sound and Hearing’.

ICT – Creating pictures. Using the keyboard to type and developing mouse control to navigate.

Art & DT – Investigation materials, printing and painting, exploring different textures and experiment with mark making,

PSHE – ‘Going for Goals’.

R.E. – Christianity.

P.E. – Dance, gymnastics and ball games.

Geography – Animal’s natural habitats.

Other Reminders

We would like to ask all parents to send their child in with a water bottle every day, clearly marked with their name and class.

P.E— Will be every Wednesday afternoon.

 

All children will need to bring in a change of clothing including footwear. Please can you ensure that their PE kit is in school and clothing and shoes are labelled. Children will take part in PE lessons inside and outside so they must have a warm PE kit.

Homework

Literacy and Numeracy Homework will be handed out every Friday.

Children who return their homework on Monday will receive a Merit.

Please ensure you child continues to read regularly at home. The reading record booklet should be returned at least every Monday andFriday.

Our Targets

Reading–

I can recognise the name and sound of all letters and 2-3 letter sounds such as ch, and sh.

I can recognise vowel digraphs such as ea, au as well as split digraphs in my reading.

I can read words of more than one syllable.

I can predict what might happen next in a story and talk about the beginning, middle and end.

Writing—

I can write sentences with a capital letter, full stop and spacing.

I can use my knowledge of letter sounds to write and attempt trickier words.

I can use a clause in my sentence such as ‘and’.

I can begin to write in paragraphs independently.

Maths-

To recognise, order, write and use numbers up to 100.

Clubs

A variety of sports, music, drama and language activities are available to year 1. Application letters for clubs will be sent out in the next few weeks.
