Our Girls Year 7 Basketball team are the Borough Champions!
They played a nail biting Final against Chingford on Monday. Our girls showed true grit and determination; they were trailing for the first three quarters and as we went into the 4th we were losing 10/16 and the girls needed to drive hard to be in with a chance of winning. The team played fantastic defence and with 1 minute to play they pulled ahead 20/18. Chingford scored again to even the score and full time ended 20/20. 5 minutes extra time was then played, our top scorer Lena scored three more baskets and won the game!
It was an amazing match and the girls did themselves and Buxton School proud.
The MVP and top scorer was Lena who scored a massive 20 points.
Year 11&10 Girls Basketball Semi – Final
Our girls had an awesome Semi Final match against Walthamstow School for Girls (WSFG). WSFG had previously beaten us in the group stages and we have been training hard to defeat them in the rematch. Our girls played the best defence I’ve seen all season and stopped the opposition scoring a basket in the first quarter. We continued to play hard and went on to win 24/9! A very convincing win.
MVP was Ugne who scored 13 points for us.
The Final against Leytonstone at the Copper Box Arena in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Our Year 11/10 girls played one of the most tense basketball matches I have ever coached. Leytonstone went into an early lead. At the end of the first quarter they were winning 0/10.
We started strong in the 2nd and held them to 12/7. The momentum shifted and we started to pull it back with the help of some amazing defence. It was all one way in the 3rd quarter with our defence denying Leytonstone any baskets. We started the 4th quarter a point behind 12/11. The final quarter was end to end. Emotions were high and both teams were desperate for the win. With one minute to go Kotryna shot from the 3 point line and put us in front by 1 point, with 32 seconds to go Leytonstone had the ball under their basket but could not get passed our AMAZING defence. At the final whistle Buxton won 17/16.
Well done to both the Year 7 and Year 11/10 teams who are now BOROUGH CHAMPIONS. The girls’ hard work has really paid off. I am so proud of the way both teams came back from losing and had the drive and determination to come back and win. Training will continue on Wednesday and Fridays.
